Man Charged with Child Abuse After Shattering Car Window onto 1-Year-Old

On August 20, deputies responded to the area of Mervell Dean Road and Hidden View Lane in Hollywood Maryland for a report of a disturbance on the side of the road. 

Investigation revealed Philip Arthur Stamey, 31 of Hollywood, was in a verbal altercation, which escalated.  Stamey smashed the rear window of his vehicle causing glass to shatter on to a one-year-old male passenger of the vehicle who was in the care and custody of Stamey. 

Stamey was arrested and charged with Reckless Endangerment and Child Abuse.

Do you realize how much force it takes to smash a car window? Ever watch COPS and see how many strikes it takes with a baton to break one of those?

Thank goodness the child is alright but apparently Mr Stamey is not! Too bad just anyone can become a parent!

Trust me, based on the info in the story, he endangered the child by breaking the glass near the child which could lead to an injury. If it was found that it was an accident, such as throwing a baseball in the air, missing it and it broke the window - that is different. That's clearly not what happened. He was angry and violent and his actions did, or could have, led to the injury of a child.

It says he was "charged with child abuse". He may have been charged by the police and not by Child Protective Services - it doesn't clarify. Charges from both places don't always go hand-in-hand, but usually. He needs an anger management class and to understand what he did. The broken glass could easily have put the child's eye out or any number of other injuries!! He needs to get his behavior, anger and common sense in check if he's going to be a caretaker of a child.

probably plea to the reckless endangerment and the court will drop the child abuse charge. This crap happens all the time.

I was the one who called the police
And he should have been charged with more then child abuse.
This idiot walked out in front of a car almost being struck by a car and then he had the audacity to yell at the driver of the car. HE held the infant like a hostage from the mother. All the while she was begging him to give her the baby. She decided to walk off with the baby and remove herself from the situation but both parents walked off and left their 3 or 4 year old child on the side of the road by himself. He pushed his wife or girlfriend several times while she was trying to retrieve the baby from his grip. I was just glad this situation didnt get any further out of hand then it did.
