At approximately 4:11 a.m. on August 20, fire and rescue was alerted to a working house fire at the residence located at 21500 Abell’s Wharf Road in Medleys Neck. Units from Leonardtown, Seventh and Second Districts and Hollywood responded to the two-story structure.

Initial reports were that people were trapped inside the residence, but all managed to escape harm. Firefighters continued to battle the blaze through internal structure collapse and all crews were able to exit without injury through a window.

SMECO was called in to secure the electric supply to the burning structure. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze from extending into the second floor.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
