At approximately 6:30 p.m. on August 9, Officers from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police and the St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations responded to the area, formally known as Lexington Manor, in Lexington Park , where the remains of an unidentified person were discovered in a partially decomposed condition.

The remains were found within an area of dense trees and heavy foliage that appears to have been a makeshift camp. The body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing.

On Sunday, August 9, police responded to a report of human remains discovered on Lei Drive in Lexington Park. At approximately 8:45 p.m., Bureau of Criminal Investigators with the assistance of Bay District Volunteer Fire Department were searching the area for reported human skeletal remains.

Lei Drive is just off Coral Drive behind the Post Office and near the Old Lexington Park Library. At present, human bones of undetermined sex have been found scattered across a wide search grid. It is thought that the bones were scattered by animals and that they were present for a month or more. TheBAYNET.com will update this story as information is made available.
