On August 1, at 12:30 p.m., Cpl. J. Murphy of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office observed the occupant of a vehicle, traveling on Chicamuxen Road near Marbury Run Road in Indian Head, throw litter out the window, and speed and pass another vehicle illegally.

The officer initiated a traffic stop but the driver refused to comply and sped away. When the driver arrived at the intersection of Chicamuxen Road and Hawthorne Road and attempted to turn she lost control of the vehicle, which left the roadway and crashed into Mattawoman Seafood.

The driver, Sherita Johnson, 21, of Indian Head, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Prince George’s Hospital Center. Three other people in the vehicle and the five people inside Mattawoman Seafood were not injured.

A building inspector responded and condemned the building. Johnson was cited on Aug. 3 for speeding, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding police, passing on a double-yellow line, driving on a learner’s permit without the required supervision and throwing refuse on a highway.
