On Thursday, August 6, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-D) will attend the following events in Calvert and St. Mary’s Counties. All events are open to press.

BRIEFING/ SEEDING PROJECT ON OYSTER RESTORATION
From Noon to 1:30 p.m. Rep. Hoyer will attend a briefing on oyster restoration efforts on the Patuxent River. The briefing will include a include a boat ride to various oyster reefs, as well an oyster planting at Trent Hall. The Oyster Recovery Partnership (ORP) is a non-profit group that brings various stakeholder groups (federal, state, watermen, environmental groups) together in implementing cost effective, large scale oyster rehabilitation.

TOUR/BRIEFING/ROUNDTABLE CALVERT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
Later in the afternoon from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m., Rep. Hoyer will visit Calvert Memorial Hospital. First he will be at a briefing and a demonstration of the Maryland eCare program which uses innovative technology to improve the safety and care of ICU patients in the district.  That will be followed by a tour of the new Emergency Department.  Finally Rep. Hoyer will conclude with a roundtable discussion with hospital officials and health providers to discuss the impact of health care reform legislation being considered in Congress on hospitals, patient care and health outcomes.

CALVERT COUNTY CANCER GALA
Finally, at 5:30 p.m. in the evening, Rep. Hoyer will greet attendees at the annual Calvert County Cancer Gala to raise funds and awareness for efforts to combat cancer in the community.
