Special Olympics Mid-Summer Classic was a Great Success

On Saturday, July 25 and Sunday July 26, St. Mary’s College of Maryland hosted the Special Olympics’ Mid-Summer Classic. For the first time, athletes competed in the sport of volleyball. Athletes also competed in sailing and kayaking at the great event. The opening ceremonies began at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Sailing and kayaking races on the St. Mary’s River took place from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volleyball players competed in the Athletics and Recreation Center from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday. Awards ceremonies were ongoing throughout the weekend with the final ceremony at 2 p.m. on Sunday to honor these very special athletes. TheBAYNET.com was there to record the ceremonies. |
