Coast Guard Station St. Inigoes and Aids to Navigation Team Potomac held a change of command ceremony at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River Friday, July 10.

During Station St. Inigoes' Change of Command Ceremony, Senior Chief Petty Officer Daniel B. Kilbourne relieved Chief Petty Officer Christopher Harward as the officer in charge of Station St. Inigoes. 

Harward led his unit through the execution of 353 search and rescue cases, 1,895 maritime law enforcement boardings and more than 300 security escorts of liquefied natural gas vessels. Harward's next assignment will be serving as the executive petty officer aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Buckthorn homeported in Sault Ste Marie, Mich.

Kilbourne reported to the St. Inigoes area from Portsmouth, Va., where he served as the officer in charge of Coast Guard Station Portsmouth. Prior to that, he served as the executive petty officer of Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral in Cape Canaveral, Fla.

As the officer in charge of Station St. Inigoes, Kilbourne is now responsible for Homeland Security missions, search and rescue, maritime law enforcement and marine environmental protection throughout the station's area of responsibility.

Also being held simultaneously was Aids to Navigation Team Potomac's change of command ceremony, where Petty Officer 1st Class Jeffrey M. Smith relieved Chief Petty Officer Brian Moore as the officer in charge of the team.

Moore led his crew in maintaining 848 aids to navigation in an area of responsibility that encompassed 2,700 square miles in the national Capitol region, Potomac River, and portions of the Chesapeake Bay. Moore's next assignment will be serving as navigation chief aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Diligence homeported in Wilmington, N.C.

"It has been a privilege to work for chief Moore," said Petty Officer 2nd Class William Minnich, the executive petty officer of the unit.  "I know I speak for the entire aids to navigation community in Sector Baltimore when I say he will be missed."

Smith reported to the St. Inigoes area from St. Petersburg, Fla., where he served aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Crocodile as the operations petty officer. Prior to that, he served as the station's supervisor at Coast Guard Station Fortescue, N.J.

As officer in charge, Smith is now responsible for inspecting, maintaining and servicing aids to navigation throughout the unit's area of responsibility.

"I have had the pleasure of serving as chief boatswain's mate Harward's executive petty officer for the last two years," said Petty Officer 1st Class Christopher Sinclair, the executive petty officer of Station St. Inigoes. "He will be sorely missed not only by the crew of Station St. Inigoes and the Coast Guard's partners but also by the hundreds of lives he has touched both professionally and personally. He has been an active member in his church and has entertained untold numbers of people with his performances and love of music. chief Harward is moving on to another job in which I am sure he will excel as the executive petty officer of Coast Guard Cutter Buckthorn in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. This job change is an excellent opportunity for chief Harward. We wish him and his family the best of luck."
