MD 246 Streetscape to Break Ground

Rustler Construction Co. of Lanham, was awarded the contract for the $4.6 million reconstruction of Great Mills Road.

This project will entail “streetscaping” a 1.4-mile section from Coral Drive to the entrance of St. Mary’s Square. The 18-month project includes the construction of brick-edged sidewalks, a median strip from Coral Drive to FDR Boulevard, the replacement of all sewer and water lines, landscaping and numerous other improvements to make Great Mills Road safer and more attractive for both pedestrians and motorists.

Construction will likely be underway in August with a kick-off information meeting soon to be announced. Great News will be published periodically to keep the business community informed of the status of this and other projects taking shape in and around the Great Mills Road corridor.

Ummm
Just what the prostitutes, vagrants and drug dealers need. Lets make it all nice for the street walkers comfort. I just hope if the county is going to put out this kind of money, they will also put out the money to have police patroling the area in an effort to really clean up Great Mills road...

Does it matter who is spending the money, what a waste it will be without extra funds for police patrol.

In your case, I think it does matter. You're saying "the County" is spending all this money on this project and it would be a waste if more palice patrols were not allocated. I'm merely saying that the County is not spending all this money, the State is. I do agree that more police patrols are needed, but then that's pretty much everywhere in this country, not just Great Mills Road. I'm just trying to separate the two thats all.

There is already a Sheriff's sub-station IN St. Mary's Square! They are up and down that stretch quite often.

The bulk of this 'State Money' will be spent on the NEEDED upgrading of sewer and water lines...not for street walker comfort (though I'm sure they appreciate you thinking about them). To replace these lines they must tear up the road and sidewalks. What better time to spruce things up? You have to replace the removed road and sidewalks anyway. We all complain about the unsightly areas of Great Mills Rd. Personally? I'm glad to see it. Maybe the prostitutes, vagrants and drug dealers will start dressing nicer and carrying themselves better. :-) Maybe they'll just all go to Craig's List!

'bout time
This will stop a lot of the left turns in the middle of the street too, what with a raised center island being installed.

People have tried many things to reduce prostitution and mostly nothing has worked yet. However, one of the best tactics is to prosecute the "johns".

Maybe if the clients of the prostitutes were arrested and TBN names the names we can reduce the demand for the product. Get Mr. Douglas to snap a few photos so we can see who is creating this demand. Besides, the ladies in the county may want to know who's been steppin' out on them, and with whom. AIDS is probably not something they want to have brought home.

spot on sedwards. it will be refreshing to the bums, wine-o's, pimps, druggies, dealers, ho's, thugs etc. they'll get what they all deserve, a much needed facade lift. i'm glad to see our $ being properly distributed to the less fortunate, it is after all my fault that they have been held back.

what did they call lexington park a few months ago?? "America's best little city" or something to that effect.PPPFFFt. may they can also put up targets to be shot at randomly. i'm sure the crossbow guy would love'em, you remember, the hooker shooter.
