SOUTHERN MARYLAND - 7/3/2009
|
The St. Mary's Babe Ruth 13/14 Blue Crabs went into the championship game Tuesday Night, June 30, against the St. Mary's Red Sox with a 11-0 record and the perfect season on the line. After a stellar performance by PJ Murphy on Monday, pitching five innings in a 13-3 win would help the Blue Crabs save their full pitching line up for the final game. Adam Hart would get the start and never look back throwing seven great innings while only giving up two runs. This allowed the Crabs to keep other players in key positions on the field to help with the defense. They outstanding play in the field from Noah Jarboe, Corey Barnes, Matt Hardy, Adam Nugent and Gunnar Abell to keep the Red Sox's in check. Tyler Burroughs and Joseph Nugent shared the duties behind the plate to keep the Red Sox runners from having a chance from moving into scoring position. The Crabs started off the offense with their lead off batter Tyler Burroughs who started things off by stealing his way around to get the first run. This would be one of his 41 stolen bases in 12 games. The Crabs would continue the run production off the bats off Corey Barnes, PJ Murphy, Josh Cox and Adam Hart. In the closing innings, one of the Blue Crabs most improved players Christopher Cullins would steal home on a passed ball to keep the momentum going. The Crabs would score 7 on the way to a 7-2 win, a perfect season and a Championship. The Blue Crabs would like to thanks Waldorf Ford and SportClips for the sponsor help during the year to make everything possible. They would also like to thank Chris Allen (GM), Butch Hobson (Manager), Jimmy Serrano (Pitcher), and Mike James (Pitcher) of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs for the pitching help and support with the team. Also in closing" I would like to thank Bobby Burroughs, Keith Hart, Dale Abell, players parents and friends for all the help and participation in making this a memorable year", Jeff Burroughs Blue Crabs Manager.
