Newark Bears 4, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 11

The Newark Bears were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 11-4 at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium in downtown Newark, NJ.

Southern Maryland scored a franchise record eleven runs in the sixth inning to overtake the Bears 4-0 lead. Four home runs off the bats of Patrick Ozborn, James Shanks, Jeremy Owens, and Octavio Martinez were enough to secure the Crabs victory.

Newark’s starting pitcher Jose Garcia takes his first lost of the season after pitching a shutout for five and two-thirds innings, but giving up seven earned runs in the sixth. Southern Maryland’s Kenny Baugh notches another win and improves his record to 6-3.

The loss brings Newark’s record to 33-29, as the Bears approach the conclusion of the first half of the season.
