Ignite the Night Holds it's Second Celebration
LEONARDTOWN - 6/23/2009

On Saturday, June 20, showers and thunderstorms gave way so that over a thousand people could come out and enjoy themselves at the second Ignite the Night held at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown. Event founders, Mike and Vicky Bailey stated that their inspiration came from attending a similar event a few years ago. Vicky Bailey said she and her husband were driving home from the event and, "I looked at my husband and said, Mike how come they can't have something like this in St. Mary's County?"
She said she didn't realize they would end up becoming the "they" that was spoken of that night. The idea took off and Vicky Bailey said, "God just brought the people!"
Ignite the Night included local Rock, Rap, Hip-Hop and Contemporary bands, as well as a special speaker and Drama through out the day. This year's event also featured Dove Award Artist and nationally known Christian rock band DECEMBERADIO. Youth Groups from area churches sold food and drinks at very reasonable prices to raise money for camps, mission trips, and other summer activities. There was candy, chips hot dogs, pizza, hamburgers, barbecue, water and soda.
The soggy event provided many activities for the whole family, including face painting, a giant slide moon bounce, an obstacle course style moon bounce, a dunk tank, and crafts for children.
Ignite the Night is free thanks to the help of the many local businesses, churches and family sponsors from the community. Those who wish to be a part of the 2010 "Ignite the Night" are encouraged to contact Vicky Bailey vbailey@ignitethenight.info, or Mike Bailey mbailey@ignitethenight.info or view their website by clicking here.
