Last night locals in St. Mary’s gathered to try their hands at cards, roulette, and even slot machines. However, this wasn’t an illicit den of gamblers, but a Chamber of Commerce after-hours hosted by the Community Development Corporation (CDC). Participants used play money to gamble for prizes at the CDC office in Lexington Park.
The novel after-hours event was an opportunity to introduce people to CDC and their Jobs Connection Program. CDC works to connect employers with individuals from the county seeking work. Their services include full background checks and prescreening based on the company’s needs, and they also offer on-site job coaching and resume assistance to locals looking for employment. Among the crowd that turned out to support the corporation while shaking some dice was state senate hopeful Tommy McKay. For more information about CDC, which also supports small local employers with services such as guaranteeing loans, call Aaron Awkward at 240-725-5785.
