On May 28, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office graduated the Spring-2009 Citizen’s Police Academy.  The Citizen’s Academy is designed to give an inside look into the day-to-day operations of the Sheriff’s Office.  Citizens learn exciting facts about the K-9 Unit, Emergency Services Team, Forensics/Crime Lab, Accreditation, Uniform Patrol, Administration, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Communications/911, State’s Attorney’s Office, Parole and Probation, Community Policing, and Corrections, just to name a few.

The Citizen’s Police Academy is free and classes are held at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters located at 23150 Leonard Hall Drive in Leonardtown.  The 6-week course is held on Thursday evenings, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. 

Anyone over the age of 18 interested in attending the Sheriff’s Office Citizen Academy is welcome to apply.  Applications may be downloaded from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office website www.firstsheriff.com.  We are currently accepting applications for the Fall-2009 session.  Just complete an application form and return it to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.
