The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs looked to respond to a 3-0 loss Friday night to the Bridgeport Bluefish in game two of the series on Saturday. The Blue Crabs batters faced another solid pitching performance, losing 4-2 in front of a capacity crowd of 6,207. Saturday’s game recap …
The Blue Crabs (21-13) put the special “Relay for Life” purple bats into action with two base hits from Richard Giannotti and Jermy Acey to lead off the game. Two batters later, Eric Crozier picked up an RBI on a fielder’s choice ground ball and Giannotti scored to give the Blue Crabs a 1-0 lead. The Bluefish (13-21) answered in the top of the second inning with back-to-back hits by Ed Rogers and Luis Rodriguez. Rogers then scored on a wild pitch by Kenny Rayborn to tie the game at one. In the fourth inning, the Bluefish took the lead when Rodriguez scored on a bases loaded single by Jay Caligiuri. Brandon Sing added another run for the Bluefish with a homerun over the left field wall to lead off the fifth inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Blue Crabs’ Patrick Osborn scored on a throwing error two batters after reaching base on a double to close the lead to 3-2. However, that was all the offense the Blue Crabs could produce as Bluefish pitcher Gary Knotts pitched the second straight complete game victory for Bridgeport, after 11-year Major League veteran Esteban Yan went the distance the night before for the ‘Fish. Kenny Rayborn picked up the loss for the Blue Crabs and finished with six innings pitched, giving up three runs on nine hits and five strikeouts. With the loss, and Long Island's 4-0 win at home tonight against York, the Blue Crabs first place lead was trimmed to three and a half games over the Ducks. |
