Artist Nancy Owens is ongratulated for her First Place -- “Best of Show” by Commissioner Samuel N. Graves (District 1) at the 18th Annual Senior Citizens Fine Arts Award Show held at the Richard R. Clark Center in La Plata. Owens painting was titled “Warm From The Oven.”

The judges had a difficult time trying to select winners as a record number (175) entries heightened the competition at the 18th Annual Senior Citizens Fine Arts Awards Ceremony, held recently at the Richard R. Clark Senior Center in La Plata.

Artwork was submitted by residents who regularly attend the senior programs throughout Charles County.

This year's contest featured a wide variety of paintings ranging from seascapes and wildlife, to portraits and landscapes that filled the walls of the senior center dining area. The competition also included needle art, sewing, photography, jewelry and decorative arts.

“This is truly an amazing effort by our seniors,” said Commissioner Sam Graves (District 1). “It lets all of us know that age doesn't matter, when it comes to artistic expression.”

The “Tulip Quilt” earned Lona Boggs a First Place -- “Best in Category (Sewing)” at the 18th Annual Senior Citizens Fine Arts Award Show held at the Richard R. Clark Senior Citizen in La Plata.  Boggs was  congratulated for her creation by Commissioner Vice President Edith Patterson (District 2).
