Air Expo '09 - Free Family Event for Memorial Day Weekend
LEXINGTON PARK - 5/13/2009
|
Those looking for something fun and free for the family to do over Memorial Day weekend can come out to Naval Air Station Patuxent River’s Air Expo ’09 on May 23 and 24 featuring the Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels. The Blue Angels’ mission is to enhance Navy and Marine Corps recruiting efforts and to represent the naval service to the United States, its elected leadership and foreign nations. The Blue Angels serve as positive role models and goodwill ambassadors for the U. S. Navy and Marine Corps.
A Blue Angels flight demonstration exhibits choreographed refinements of skills possessed by all naval aviators. It includes the graceful aerobatic maneuvers of the four-jet Diamond Formation, in concert with the fast-paced, high-performance maneuvers of its two Solo pilots. Finally, the team illustrates the pinnacle of precision flying, performing maneuvers locked as a unit in the renowned, six-jet Delta Formation.
Also headlining Air Expo ’09 will be the Army’s Golden Knights Parachute Team and the Air Force’s Viper East F-16 Demonstration Team.
Past will meet present and future in the static aircraft display area, which will include historic aircraft retired from service and current models and variants being used by war fighters today.
Proceeds from Air Expo ’09 will go to NAS Patuxent River’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, which provides support and recreational services that contribute to the mental, physical and emotional well-being, retention, readiness and quality of life to single Sailors and Navy families.
Parking and admission to Air Expo ’09 are free. Gates open at 9 a.m.
No weapons or explosives, illegal substances, coolers, alcoholic beverages, glass containers, pets, bicycles, roller blades, skateboards, scooters or backpacks are permitted on the show site. All persons, vehicles, diaper bags, camera bags, and purses are subject to search.
BAE Systems, Northrop Grumman, ITT Corp., ASEC, Inc., GEICO, Disabled Veterans of America, Chick-fil-A, Barefoot Graphics, Chesapeake Custom Embroidery, Waldorf Volkswagen and Subaru, Pratt & Whitney, Sabre Systems Inc., Chaney Enterprises, L3 Communications, Coca-Cola, Lincoln Military Housing, Best Buy, Navy Federal Credit Union, Winslow Pump and Well, Inc., Stanley Martin Homes and NAVMAR Applied Sciences Corporation are sponsors of Air Expo ’09.
