2009 Southern Maryland Optimist Junior Golf Championships

The Southern Maryland Optimist Junior Golf Championships will conduct five nine-hole tournaments for junior golfers this year. The tournaments are open to boys and girls from ages 10 through 18. The tournaments will be contested in the following age brackets: Girsl: 10 to 11, 12 to 13, 14 to 15 and 16 to 18. Boys: 10 to 13 and 14 to 18. The players age is determined by their age as of July 30. The boy and girl winners in all 12 to 18 boys and 14 to 18 girls age divisions at each event will qualify for the Maryland-S Delaware District of Optimist International Tournament to be held at Marlton Golf Course in Marlton on Tuesday, June 16.
The winners of the district event will qualify for the Optimist International at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida held in late July.
The SMOJGC will be conducting a Rules and Etiquette Clinic on Saturday May 23, at 2 p.m. for all players. This is a free clinic and all players are expected to attend. All SMOJGC tournaments are “after school.” Registration will begin around 2:30 p.m. with the first group teeing off around 3 p.m. beginning with the 16 to 18 age brackets followed by the 14 to 15, 12 to 13 and ending with the 10 to 11 golfers.
Parents are encouraged to not take children out of school early. The tournaments will allow players in until 5 p.m. on tournament day.
