SOUTHERN MARYLAND - 4/22/2009
By J. R. Mackey

Not even the weather could stop a few local college students from living their big league dreams on Tuesday night at Regency Furniture Stadium. As the Hawks of the College of Southern Maryland paid visit to the SoMD Blue Crabs. While it was just an exhibition for the Blue Crabs, for the Hawks it was a dream come true. It was a game filled with hopes and possibilities. It may be the last time that most of these young men step into the bright lights of a pro stadium, for some it was a sign of what their future may hold. Weather it was a ground ball, a hit or a strikeout the Hawks never lost their smile. They were playing the game they had loved for so long, and they were doing it against professionals. It reminded many in attendance that baseball is a kids sport, being played by grown men. It’s supposed to be fun, and on Tuesday night, it was. The biggest thing that was evident was the fact that Southern Maryland Baseball has returned in 2009. Both teams looked prepared and determined to have successful seasons. Good luck to both, and remember……just have fun.
