St. Mary’s College of Maryland senior women’s lacrosse midfielder Lauren Carrier, of Crownsville, is one of six athletes featured in the April 6 edition of Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd.”
 
Carrier’s recognition in Sports Illustrated is a result of her breaking the NCAA Division III women’s lacrosse record for consecutive goals with at least one goal.  On March 5, Carrier surpassed the old score of 45 games set by the University of Scranton’s Liz Baumbach with three goals in a win over Washington College.  Carrier continues to bolster her NCAA Division III record as the streak currently stands at 56 games, which includes her four-goal performance in a win Marymount University on April 7.  Carrier started the streak as a freshman April 15, 2006 in a loss to Mary Washington.

She has accomplished this while recovering from an injury while playing for the soccer team last October. After tearing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), she was cleared to play lacrosse just three days before the first game of the season.
 
“That’s the earliest you can come back from an ACL tear,” explained Carrier, “so it took a lot of rehab and work.  Being in the magazine is pretty amazing and exciting after everything I have been through.  A couple months ago, I never thought I would be on the field, so now I am just trying to enjoy every minute of what I have left and not taking anything for granted.”

“Lauren’s accomplishments this year are a true testament to her hard work and dedication,” said Carrier’s coach, Kara Reber.
 
The midfielder commands the Seahawk offense with team-highs of 49 goals and 60 points, ranking her 16th in Division III in points. 
 
With Carrier at the helm of St. Mary’s high-powered offense, the Seahawks are ninth in the nation in points with 286 through 14 games.  St. Mary’s is currently ranked 18th in Division III with a 10-4 record.
