Sewer Overflow: Avoid Contact for Seven Days

The St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission is reporting a sanitary sewer overflow that occurred on March 31, in the area of the Carver Recreation Facility, Lexington Park. The sanitary sewer leak occurred as a result of debris blocking the pipe and the total estimated volume of the overflow is estimated between 8,000 and 10,000 gallons.

The receiving water affected by this overflow is an unnamed stream along Copeland Lane in Lexington Park. The debris has been removed from the pipe and the affected area has been vacuumed and limed to minimize contamination.
 
Public contact of the affected portions of this unnamed stream should be avoided for seven days.
