Blue Crabs vs. CSM Face Off in Stadium Showdown
SOUTHERN MARYLAND - 3/23/2009
|
The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs have announced an exciting end to 2009 spring training. Once the team returns home from Florida, it will play one last exhibition game against the College of Southern Maryland. It will be the Blue Crabs final tune-up before their regular season opener, at home against the Long Island Ducks on Thursday, April 23 at 7:05 p.m. The game against the CSM Hawks will begin at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, at the home of the Blue Crabs. In lieu of admission, the College of Southern Maryland will be accepting donations at the gate at Regency Furniture Stadium. All proceeds from donations will benefit the athletic programs at CSM. The match-up will mark the first time the Blue Crabs have played the local squad, which competes in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference.
College of Southern Maryland Head Coach Joe Blandford had this to say about the game: “CSM playing against the Blue Crabs is a good opportunity to test our baseball skills. The Blue Crabs have brought a winning baseball team to the area and the college players enjoy going to the games. The CSM team will have an opportunity to experience what it is like to play against professional baseball players, which is a dream of most young ball players. I was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox since 1970 and it was a pleasure to meet and talk to Butch Hobson about hitting techniques. I have used some of his advice to help my players when they are in a slump. This will be a memory they will not forget.”
After the open tryout at Regency Furniture Stadium on April 11 (begins at 9 a.m., visit SoMDBlueCrabs.com for more information and to sign up), the Blue Crabs will depart for spring training on April 13. For a second year, the Blue Crabs will hold pre-season camp at the Detroit Tigers minor league complex in Lakeland, Florida.
The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs will open their second season of Atlantic League baseball at HOME on Thursday, April 23 at 7:05 p.m., against the Liberty Division rival Long Island Ducks. The Blue Crabs will play 70 home games this season at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf. A full promotional schedule featuring some of the best giveaways and most unique events in minor league baseball will be announced in the coming days.
Season tickets, group events and mini-plans are currently on sale for the 2009 season. The Blue Crabs can also help your group fundraise at no risk and no up-front costs, by helping you sell hundreds of tickets to exciting Atlantic League Baseball.
