Raw Wastewater Overflow Reported at Barrington Drive

The Charles County Department of Utilities reports that as a result of a sewer line break on Friday, March 20, near Barrington Drive in Waldorf, approximately 5,000 gallons of raw sewage was discharged into an unnamed tributary near Post Office Pond.

According to the Department, the overflow occurred due to a sewer line break that was caused by a backup of grease in the line. The overflow was reported  at approximately 7 a.m. and was contained by 8:45 a.m. The Department reported that 3,500-4,000 gallons were pumped and that samples were taken by the Department at the direction of the Charles County Health Department for testing. There are no plans at this time for repeat sampling and signs will be posted near the ditch area.

If you would like additional information, please contact the Charles County Department of Utilities at (301) 609-7400.
