Victim Robbed, Assaulted at Burchmart After Giving Begger Money

On March 18 at 9:30 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 10000 block of Berry Road in Waldorf for the report of a robbery and assault.
Investigation revealed the victim was standing outside the Burchmart store when three teenaged males approached. One of the teens asked the victim for money to pay for his bus fare. When the victim handed the suspect a dollar, the suspect grabbed the victim’s wallet and punched the victim in the face.
The victim struggled with the suspect and managed to get his wallet back. The suspect and his friends fled. Officers canvassed the area and developed information about the identity of one of the subjects. The suspect was located a short time later at a home in a nearby neighborhood. The victim positively identified the suspect as being the person responsible for the robbery and assault.
The suspect, a 17 –year-old from Waldorf, was arrested and charged with robbery, second-degree assault, and theft.
