Calvert County Announces DUI Checkpoints

CALVERT COUNTY - 3/10/2009

Printer friendly

In an attempt to discourage impaired driving, the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, with funding from Checkpoint Strikeforce, will be conducting DUI saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints at various locations throughout Calvert County on surrounding dates of the St. Patrick’s Day holiday.  DUI Sobriety checkpoints are a tool used by law enforcement throughout Maryland where impaired driving has been prevalent and a significant contributing factor in serious and fatal injury vehicle crashes.

The purpose of these sobriety checkpoints is to aid deputies in identifying and removing impaired drivers from our roadways.  We believe that a substantial benefit will continue to be gained from the use of sobriety checkpoints.  Increasing the impaired driver’s perceived risk of detection may deter him or her from driving while under the influence or while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office appreciates your cooperation in this effort and hopes that any inconvenience you experience at the sobriety checkpoints is minimal and does not unnecessarily delay your journey.
