Teen Shooting Victim Released from Children's Hospital

 The 13-year-old victim of the accidental shooting, which occurred in Hollywood, on Jan. 31 was released from Children’s Hospital on Feb. 3 .

The case is currently under review by the St. Mary’s County States Attorney’s Office and no charges have been filed.


On Saturday, Jan. 31, at approximately 2:43 p.m., officers from the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack and St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to 25275 Sotterley Road in Hollywood for a reported accidental shooting. 

TFC J. Stern contacted a 13-year-old juvenile male, of Hollywood, who had been struck in the upper chest by a .22 caliber long rifle round.  He was being treated by Emergency Medical personnel from the Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad. 

Further investigation revealed the juvenile was accidentally shot by 12-year old male juvenile, of Hollywood while target shooting in the backyard of the residence.  The victim was transported by MSP helicopter Trooper 7 to Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. for his injuries and is listed in stable condition. 

Child Protective Services was notified of the incident. The St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene and will be handling the investigation.


At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, Maryland State Police and Advanced Life Support along with fire and rescue units from Hollywood and Leonardtown responded to a gun shot victim reported at 25275 Sotterley Road in Hollywood.  

When first responders arrived they discovered a juvenile male, 13-years-old had been shot in the upper torso and was seriously injured. Trooper 2 was called and the boy was transported to Children's Hospital.

At this writing, MSP is reporting that the gun shot is being treated as an accidental shooting, Authorities are awaiting word from Children's Hospital on the boy's condition at this time.
