UPDATE: Round Two - Mother Nature is not Done

The National Weather Service is reporting that the next wave of sleet and snow is beginning to hit the area. Today's accumulation was from one to 3 inches of snow with more expected tonight. The surface temperatures will remain below freezing, but unstable air is moving into the area. The warmer air aloft will create a condition favorable to freezing rain after the next round of snow and sleet add to the accumulation totals for the day,
Surface temperatures are forecast to remain below freezing creating difficult and dangerous driving conditions across the region. Motorists are advised to continue to drive with extreme caution and to remain off the roads whenever possible. The changeover to rains and above freezing temperatures not expected until sometime after the morning rush hour. Emergency situations are expected throughout the night and into the morning.
ST. MARY'S: Due to inclement weather, all three St. Mary County Public Libraries will be closing today, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m. The Wicomico Golf Course and Riverview Restaurant will be closing at 2 p.m.
CHARLES: The Charles County Board of Appeals Meeting scheduled for this evening (Jan. 27) has been canceled. Charles County Meals on Wheels has also been canceled.
ST. MARY'S: The St. Mary's County Board of County Commissioners have postponed the Public Forum scheduled for this evening (Jan. 27).
ST. MARY'S: For Tuesday, Jan.27, as of 1 p.m., all recreation programs and facilities will be closed for afternoon and evening programs due to inclement weather. Facilities are listed as: Carver Recreation Center, Chancellors Run Regional Park, Great Mills Swimming Pool, The Gymnastics Center, Leonard Hall Recreation Center, Margaret Brent Recreation Center and all athletic fields. CALVERT: As of 11 a.m., Calvert Count Government is on liberal leave. All branches of the Calvert Library will be closing at Noon on Jan. 27. All three county school systems will be closing early today. St. Mary's Public Schools and Calvert County Public Schools are closing 3 hours early. Charles County Public Schools are closing 2 hours early. All campuses of the College of Southern Maryland are also closed. St. Mary's College of Maryland will close at 12 noon, from which time offices will shut and classes are cancelled. The Library at SMCM will remain open until 5pm. Snow and icy conditions are making the road treacherous for all motorists. More closings as the information is provided to us. St. Mary's County Weather Update St. Mary's County is currently under a Winter Weather Advisory until 6 a.m. Wednesday, January 28. Snow is expected to change to snow and sleet between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. it will change to rain and sleet. At 7 p.m. it will change to freezing rain with temps around 30 degrees. Wednesday morning the temps will rise to around 44 degrees with rain expected throughout the day.The most precipitation is expected to affect Northern St. Marys County. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visability while driving. There will be no Meals on Wheels delivery today, January 27. Recipients are advised to utilize their shelf-stable emergency meals. |
