The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, Corrections Division has been adopting a Christmas family since 1996.  Donations of toys and clothing come from the uniformed and civilian staff, contract employee and program volunteers.  The gifts are wrapped and delivered to the family by Corrections staff and Santa Claus.  Ms. Leann Quade, Senior Administrative Coordinator for Corrections has been the primary organizer of this event for many years.  This year Quade was assisted by Ms. Valerie Hayden, Administrative Coordinator for Corrections.

In addition to gifts, last year, Sgt. Teresa Studds started a food drive for the families.  The food drive is designed as a friendly competition among the Corrections squads, Community Supervision Unit, Transport Unit, and civilian staff.  The unit or squad who collects the most food receives pizza for everyone within the unit.  The pizza is provided by the Corrections Commanders.

The Tamecia Commodore family from Lexington Park was this year’s St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Correction’s Division family.  The three children, ages nine, four and one received a variety of toys and games delivered on Dec. 19, by Santa Claus (retired Correction’s Cpl. Jeffrey Kreps), Cpl. Donna Rustin, Correctional Officer First Class Bruce Raley, Correctional Officer Kelly Lowether, Quade, Hayden, Ms. Glenda Dennis and Ms. Amber Mick.

Sheriff Timothy Cameron and the men and women of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
