SMH Wins Coveted Excellence Award for Quality Improvement
LEONARDTOWN - 12/27/2008
St. Mary’s Hospital’s dedicated efforts to provide safe, effective and timely care have not gone unnoticed. Because of the hospital’s significant and sustained quality care, the Delmarva Foundation, which is Maryland and Washington D.C.’s Medicare quality improvement organization, announced that St. Mary’s Hospital was the recipient of its prestigious 2008 Excellence Award for Quality Improvement. This award was earned for the excellent care provided to surgical patients, as well as those who suffer from heart attacks, pneumonia and congestive heart failure. Out of 46 hospitals in the State, St. Mary’s Hospital was one of only four facilities in Maryland to receive this award. Christine Wray, President and CEO of St. Mary’s Hospital, offered her congratulations to the hospital’s physicians and employees on their collaborative effort. “This is particularly gratifying to me because it exemplifies what we can achieve when we work together as a team,” she said. The Delmarva Foundation requires hospitals to show an improved individual performance measure rate to 90 percent or above on 11 required measures, as well as sustained improvement for at least three consecutive quarters. St. Mary’s Hospital also had to report at least 22 measures to the Hospital Quality Alliance and achieve a minimum Clinical Data Abstraction Center validation score of 80 percent for data. The data used to achieve this award is publicly reported and available on many websites, including Hospital Compare and the Maryland Health Care Commission’s website, more commonly called the “Maryland Hospital Report Card.” |
