Recognizing Extraordinary Nurses
LEONARDTOWN - 12/10/2008
|
Family members of J. Patrick Barnes established the nonprofit DAISY Foundation. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families. In addition to this recognition, Jeannie received a certificate that read: “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.” She also received a sculpture entitled “A Healer’s Touch,” as well as a cash gift. The nurses in Jeannie’s unit received Cinnabons in remembrance of Patrick. Cinnabons were significant for Patrick because it was the one food he could eat while he was ill.
