On Nov 25, as part of our continuing efforts in energy conservation and to recognize the schools for their achievements in saving energy, schools received awards for reducing electric consumption in fiscal year 2008, compared to fiscal year 2007.

Each qualifying school received $100 for each percent saved, up to five percent or $500.  These funds are to be used to support their Green School Program.  Dr. Michael J. Martirano, superintendent of schools, and Board of Education members presented the awards to the schools.

Schools receiving $200 for saving 2% in electric consumption are Green Holly Elementary School, Hollywood Elementary School, and Leonardtown Elementary School.

Schools receiving $300 for saving 3% are Esperanza Middle School, Lexington Park Elementary School, and Mechanicsville Elementary School.

George Washington Carver Elementary School received an award of $400 for 4% in savings.

Schools that saved 5% or more and received $500 are Benjamin Banneker Elementary School, Chopticon High School, Dynard Elementary School, Fairlead Academy, Great Mills High School, Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center, Leonardtown High School, Leonardtown Middle School, Lettie Marshall Dent Elementary School, Park Hall Elementary School, Piney Point Elementary School, Ridge Elementary School, Spring Ridge Middle School, Town Creek Elementary School, and White Marsh Elementary School.

The Green School Coordinators, students, and staff at these schools should be congratulated for their efforts.
