Commissioners Propose Public Transit Reduction

CALVERT COUNTY - 12/4/2008

Printer friendly

The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners is proposing a reduction in public transportation services due to a recent 16 percent cut in state funding from the Maryland Transit Administration. The proposed changes include cancellation of Prince Frederick Bus Route 2 and the second bus assigned to the Prince Frederick-Solomons route. This reduction does not eliminate service to any area and only affects frequency times on these routes.

Prince Frederick Bus Route 1 and Prince Frederick-Solomons Bus Route 1 will remain in service with minor changes to accommodate the cancellations.

The proposed changes are scheduled to go into effect on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009. Copies of updated schedules are available by contacting the Public Transportation office at (410) 535-4510.

In accordance with Maryland Transit Administration requirements, any jurisdiction that proposes a reduction in transportation services, including the deletion or major alteration of a route, must provide an opportunity for a public hearing. Citizens desiring a public hearing on these proposed changes may submit a written request to Calvert County Public Transportation, 175 Main Street in Prince Frederick by 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 29. Should a public hearing be requested, it will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the Commissioners Hearing Room, Courthouse, 175 Main Street in Prince Frederick. An interpreter will be provided for the deaf and hearing impaired persons provided that a timely request is made by calling 1-800-735-2258.

For more information, contact Transportation Services Supervisor Sandra Wobbleton in the Calvert County Department of Community Resources at (410) 535-1600 ext. 2360 or e-mail wobblesv@co.cal.md.us.
