On Nov. 29 at 12:17 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 12300 block of Rock Point Road in Newburg for the report of a burglary in progress.

Investigation revealed the homeowners were inside their house when they heard a window break.  The homeowners looked outside and saw the suspect climbing through a window leading to the garage; they called police and provided a description. Officers arrived at the residence, established a perimeter and began searching for the suspect.

At that point, officers observed the suspect near the garage and ordered him to surrender; the suspect refused and fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, the suspect, Ronald Wayne Johnson, 39 of King George, Va., was apprehended. He was charged with burglary and destruction of property.

Cpl. J. Hastings and Officer A. Sullivan made the arrest.
