Teen Released to Parents after Drug Arrest

On Nov. 22, at 8:25 p.m., a male juvenile, 17 of Mechanicsville, was arrested by Tpr. J. Gibson for possession of marijuana and CDS paraphernalia.  The juvenile was a passenger in a black Toyota Corolla when they were stopped for a traffic violation.  Contact was made with both the driver and the male juvenile passenger and a strong odor of burnt marijuana was emitting from the vehicle.  The male juvenile was found to be in possession of a CDS smoking device with marijuana.  He was taken into custody and later released to his mother pending further action by Juvenile Services.

NotBornHere 11/25/2008 at 1:34 PM Major Problem OK, this "released to a parent" thing really shows how much has changed over time. If I was that 17 year old I would beg to stay in jail. The last place I would want to be after getting busted for ANYTHING would be around my Dad. But I'll tell ya, I grew up to have a lot of respect for other people and their property. Dad didn't beat us, but you just knew he would keep his words and kick the crap out of you if you messed up like this. He wasn't one of those folks with flowers in his hair and everything was peace/love/dove. Just a straight shooter who loved his family and did everything he could do to raise us right. It worked for my brothers. LOL Reply to This Comment

Of course, today you can't even yell at your child in public without someone accusing you of "verbally abusing" your child. Hopefully this kid learned his lesson... if not from being in jail, from his parents... I know I would have been severely punished and probably wouldnt see the light of day until I was 18...
