The Maryland State Fire Marshall's Southern Regional Office is investigating a two alarm house fire in Huntingtown at 2335 Potts Point Road, that has left a family of five homeless.

On Nov. 19, at 12:34 a.m., the homeoner and his family were awakened by an unusual roaring noise. The father got out of bed and discovered the chimney, in the attic area, was on fire. The father attempted to put the fire out before evacuating his family to safety. The house was completely destroyed and the family has been displaced with the American Red Cross providing assistance.

There were no smoke alarms in the home at the time of fire.  It took over 50 firefighters from Huntingtown, Dunkirk, North Beach and Prince Frederick to battle the blaze.

The cause of the fire appears to be accidental. The estimated loss is $150,000.
