Cigarettes Cause Careless House Fire

The Maryland State Fire Marshall's Southern Regional Office is investigating a careless house fire that broke out on Nov. 6. in Mechanicsville.
Around 7 p.m., the homeowner of a two-story, single-family home located at 25923 Shenandoah Drive, noticed a blaze on the deck in the rear of the house.
Units from Mechanicsville and Newburg Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene. It took about 20 firefighters to bring the fire under control.
The cause of the fire is accidental as a result of improperly discarded smoking materials.
Damage estimate rings in $15,000.
