On Nov. 3, at 11:10 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the PNC Bank located at 2595 Crain Highway in Waldorf for the report of a robbery in progress.
Investigation revealed the suspect walked into the bank, displayed a handgun, and handed the teller a note demanding money.
After the robbery, the suspect fled to a car that was parked at a nearby bowling alley. A witness observed the suspect fleeing the bank and called police to provide a description of the suspect vehicle. The citizen followed the suspect as he drove south on Route 301 and provided police up to date information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts. Responding officers observed the vehicle in the 1200 block of Crain Highway and attempted to stop the suspect, but he crashed his car into a small barrier and attempted to flee on foot.
Officers pursued the suspect, Mann Thomas Ward II, 41 of Newburg, and apprehended him without further incident. He was charged with armed robbery and remanded to the Charles County Detention Center with no bond.
Detectives are in the process of determining if this robbery was related to the bank robbery that occurred last week at the M & T Bank in Waldorf. The Major Crimes Unit is investigating.
