Earlier in the fall, Bureau of Criminal Investigations Vice Narcotics Detectives began an investigation into a possible marijuana growing operation located inside a residence near Town Creek Drive in California. As a result of that investigation a search and seizure warrant was obtained and executed.
 
On Oct. 9, BCI vice detectives, assisted by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Emergency Services Team, executed the search warrant. Once inside, an extensive marijuana growing operation was located which contained plants in various states of cultivation.

More than 100 marijuana plants were located inside the home as well as a Glock 40 handgun. The value of the plants and the growing equipment is estimated at more than $120 thousand.
 
Newland was arrested and charged. Additional charges are pending a State’s Attorney’s Office review. 

TheBAYNET.com has since learned that Newland is no stranger to law enforcement. A search of case files indicate that Newland has been in trouble with the law since October of 2004 when he was charged with unauthorized removal of property, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. In 2006, Newland once again got into trouble. In August, he was charged with multiple counts of theft. Then in December, Newland was charged with escape in the second degree for which he received three years probation, set to expire in 2009.
