PAX NAS Workers Discover Unexploded Ordnance Near Gate 3

On Friday, Nov. 6 about 6 p.m. while working to restore Pond No. 3 near gate three on base, a crew scanning the surface waters with a metal detector for debris discovered an unexploded mid-twentieth century 5 inch rocket.

Pax River Prepares for New Aircraft

A new jet aircraft will soon be calling Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River home. The F-35 Lightning II, Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) will arrive from Fort Worth, Texas to continue its System Development and Demonstration (SDD) testing efforts at NAS Patuxent River.

UPDATE: Pilot's on Training Mission Forced to Eject at Landing

Navy Test Pilot School trainees, a US Marine Capt and a female civilian engineer were on a training flight while attending the Naval Test Pilot School on base, when they made a routine landing. During the landing rollout, the crew discovered that they could not stop the T-38C Talon and ejected.

Super Hornet Cleared to Fly at Higher Altitudes, Reducing Fuel Cost

After three years of hard work from numerous agencies; federal, military, and private industry, the Navy has certified the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet to fly higher, at an altitude once reserved solely for commercial airlines. The certification will save the Navy $250,000 per squadron per year!

Local Contractor, Smartronix Receives Large Contract Award

Smartronix was awarded a contract worth $18 million by the General Services Administration on Wednesday, July 9. The contract was awarded to redesign the transparency Web site, Recovery.gov, which is the federal site designated to track for the American public how stimulus funds are spent.
