TBN Features 10/26/2009 4:21 PM EST We'd enjoy writing more cogent and insightful articles on a wide range of topics - including some national and international topics that concern us all. However, as one writer here states, money and equipment and the very few number of hours in the day are a definite draw-back to accomplishing something along those lines. Another reader suggested that he or she write for TBN - and many of you may not be aware, that we do indeed accept unsolicited stories and articles for publication. However, be prepared to have them edited, rewritten or just plain deleted if they are poorly written, libelous, overly biased, or discriminate in any way. A final point -- the environmental stories, the community stories we do run are the least read of all TBN daily offerings. The lion's share of readers tend to read the blood, guts, bent cars, crime and bizarre news to a much higher degree. Writing a news story that no one reads is no fun at all. It's sort of like the old black and white vs. color tv debate of the late 50s and early 60s. If more people would buy color tv sets, the networks would make more color shows. If more people expressed an interest and read the community and environmental type stories, we'd be happy to write more.

Re: TBN Features 10/26/2009 9:42 PM EST { In reply to petehurrey } We have enough international and national news websites. TBN started out as a local news website, and it should stay that way.

Re: Re: Re: TBN Features 10/27/2009 8:33 AM EST { In reply to krszbc1 } When I want to find out about world news I go to a website like Fox, MSNBC, Newsweek, CNN or the Washington Post. I come to TBN because I want to know what's going on in my backyard. I have children and I want to know about the perverts that are out there or the thefts that are taking place. You cannot be protect your family without knowing the type of neighborhood you live in. As far as the negative comments, you're right. There are a few rude ones out there but that's an easy fix. Just don't respond to them or don't even read them. I check TBN throughout the day because this is the only place that you can get updated news. If there is a bridge closure, road closure, school closure or whatever else, TBN atleast alerts its readers (unlike Southern MD Online that just has news stories that could be days old). If they do not have the staff to produce both wordly and local news I'm glad that they post the local stuff. Keep up the good work TBN!

Re: Re: Re: Re: TBN Features 10/27/2009 9:59 AM EST { In reply to mom-of-3 } I agree with mom-of-3. TBN, by definition, is a hyperlocal news site, meaning news pertaining to a relatively small geographic location or interest. Locals to Southern Maryland come here for traffic, school news, local politics and events, etc. If sometimes the national stories can be tied into local stories, then I think that may be worth the effort and has worked out for TBN in the past. Competing with internationally known sites such as CNN, FoxNews or TheWashingtonPost.com would not be worth the effort for TBN. Fact of the matter is, the majority of the readers are here for local news. With a small staff, the effort shouldn't be wasted to cover national events that will be better covered and better received elsewhere. It would be a poor business model on top of that. I think you're doing a fine job, Pete! Keep up the good work.

Re: Re: TBN Features 10/29/2009 11:48 AM EST { In reply to X-Fusion } Stay local but write politics - commissioner meetings and developments - and local school board meetings, in addition to the police blotter and crash stuff.

Re: Re: Re: TBN Features 10/29/2009 1:12 PM EST { In reply to Charlie } That's sort of what they're doing now. Politics stuff gets old after awhile.

Re: Re: Re: TBN Features 10/29/2009 2:35 PM EST { In reply to Charlie } See: Current Spotlighted Story I personally enjoy the occasional liquor board meeting story that goes out of control, courtesy of wild and crazy locals. They're always fun stories, so long as you don't become one...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: TBN Features 10/30/2009 7:08 AM EST { In reply to kmartini } I'd be more likely to be on the state news giving the governor the bird.
