NAACP- Thank You for a Successful 6th Annual Spring College and Career Fair St. Mary’s County Branch NAACP #7025 in partnership with St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) held its 6th Annual Spring College and Career Fair on February 10, 2018 in honor of African American History Month”. Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), local colleges/universities, career Information and youth & family support services were featured. A special thanks to our sponsors, supporters and volunteers our Fair was a tremendous success. Stephen C. Reynolds, Southern Maryland Electric Corporation (SMECO), Rotary Club of Lexington Park, College of Southern Maryland, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Walmart, Target, Tri-County Maryland Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Minority Outreach Coalition, The Enterprise, Travelers Masonic Lodge # 4, Dr. Scott Smith and SMCPS’ staff, Dr. James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center Students & Staff in the Graphic Communications, the Teacher Academy of Maryland, and the Culinary Arts programs, the NAACP Executive Committee, College & Career Fair chair, Adrianne Dillahunt, the NAACP Education Committee and all volunteers who supported this event. Participants included the College of Southern Maryland (CSM), St. Mary’s College of Maryland(SMCM), Southern Maryland Higher Education Center, Bowie State University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Coppin State University, Morgan State University, Capital Technology University, Central State University, Culinary Institute of Virginia, Norfolk State University, Savannah State University, North Carolina A & T University, US Merchant Marines Academy, Southern Maryland Electric Corporation (SMECO), St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department ,Charles County Sheriff’s Department, Prince George’s County Department of Corrections, Emergency Medical Services and Technology, US Navy, US Army, US Marines,Tri-County Youth Services Bureau, St. Mary’s County Public Library, Minority Outreach Coalition, So. MD JobSource Youth & Young Adult, St. Mary’s County Board of Elections, Walden/The Cove and SMCPS Academy Programs. Financial/Scholarship information available included AP, Wells Fargo, College Access Program/BECA (NAACP Claudia Pickeral Scholarship), SMECO, LOTT Enterprises and Southern Maryland Chain Chapter, The Links Inc. Approximately 300 students attended the Fair. Along with receiving valuable college and career information, they entered drawings and won gift cards to Target and Walmart, VIP tours of CSM and SMCM. There was a special drawing for tickets to the premier of the Black Panther super hero movie held on February 15th at the AMC in Lexington Park.
