Suspect linked to shooting, school lock down apprehended

Elijah Miguel Miles has been apprehended and put in police custody outside of St. Mary's County, officials say. 


The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office is currently seeking the whereabouts of Elijah Miguel Miles, age 17 of California.  Miles is wanted in connection to a shooting which occurred in the Hickory Hills neighborhood on December 4, 2018.  Miles was also reportedly seen in the area of Great Mills High School, which led to the school being placed on lock down as a precaution to ensure safety to students and faculty of the school.

According to school officials, Great Mills High School has been cleared. Students will be dismissed at 12:45 a.m.


According to Cpl. Julie Yingling of the SMCSO, the lock down has been linked to the shooting incident from Tuesday, Dec. 4 in Hickory Hills in which the suspect(s) remain at large. 

In the video above, an officer directs parents to a nearby FOP until the lock down is lifted. The officer continues to reassure parents that the lock down is only precautionary, "Everyone in the school is fine. There is no one injured, there is no one hurt. We're reacting to information we have received.". 

St. Mary's County School officials have announced that students will be dismissed at 12:45 p.m. Police continue to investigate. 


According to police, the lock down is a precautionary measure stating "There is no threat to students or the neighboring community.". Police say parents can remain at work or home. The school remains on lock down. 

 

 

 


GREAT MILLS, Md. - Dec. 5, around 10:20 a.m., TheBayNet.com received reports that Great Mills High School is on lock down.

According to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office (SMCSO), sightings of an armed individual were made in the area. Police say the school has been placed on lock down as a precaution in the interest in protecting students and faculty. A large police presence is on scene investigating.
