Solomons Jingle Bell call to raise awareness for arthritis

Solomons, MD – The 2018 Jingle Bell Run for arthritis is bringing holiday cheer to Solomons on December 1, 2018 with the goal of raising $37,000  this year. As more than 650 people gather at Holiday Inn Solomons to join the movement to conquer arthritis, this annual, holiday-themed 5K run encourages participants to dress in festive costumes and get moving to raise awareness and funds to cure America’s #1 cause of disability.

Taking place in more than 100 cities nationwide, the Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run benefits the more than 54 million Americans (1 in 4 adults), including 300,000 children (1 in every 250), living with arthritis every day. From funding cutting-edge research for new treatments and ultimately a cure to advocating for health care access, the Arthritis Foundation helps those living with arthritis score everyday victories, one step at a time.

“Jingle Bell Run is a 20-year tradition in Solomons and known nationally as the original festive race for charity,” said Greta Barnes, Executive Director of the Metro DC Arthritis Foundation. “Our honorees and volunteers are what make this event successful and memorable every year, and this year we’re humbled to honor Shannon Ward and Emma Connelly who are true Arthritis Warriors and continually commit their time to raising awareness and funds for our cause.”

Teen Honoree Shannon Ward’s mother, Michelle Ward, said, “Although she has JRA, with careful monitoring and treatment, she has been able to do those things that most 15-year-old girls enjoy, including participating in the Solomon’s Island Jingle Bell Run! She is grateful for the participation of runners in this event, as every dollar raised is important to continue the monumentally important work in which the Arthritis Foundation is engaged.”

The Jingle Bell Run is nationally sponsored by AbbVie, CVS Specialty and Cheribundi. The Solomons Island Jingle Bell Run is locally sponsored by Asbury Solomons and Personalized Therapy, LLC.
