The Arc of Southern Maryland doubles down on charity drive

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. - The holiday season is right around the corner. It's a time in which many celebrate goodwill and give back to their communities. This year, The Arc of Southern Maryland is paying forward the goodwill they receive with "Giving 2sday".

A take on the global charity movement known as "Giving Tuesday", The Arc of Southern Maryland will send a percentage of any donation they receive on Nov. 28 to those effected by natural disasters. The remainder of the donation will go to support the needs of people with different abilities.

Full press release below.

#GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The movement kicks off the holiday giving season by inspiring people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in meaningful ways to the charities and causes they support.

Renee Seigley, Director of Development for The Arc Southern Maryland says, “This year The Arc decided to have "Giving 2sday" and also focus on the needs of so many impacted by the devastating disasters in California, Houston, Puerto Rico and Florida.  Traditionally, most donations for natural disasters are given in the first two weeks and very little is given after the first month. We know that those victims will be suffering for many months. For any gift that The Arc receives, a percentage will be given to organizations who aid these victims.”

The remainder of each "Giving “2sday" gift will be utilized to enrich the lives of people with different abilities through The Arc’s job coaching and placement, safe and supportive housing, community inclusion and more. The Arc recognizes that they are in a very caring and generous community and hopes that many will take advantage of the opportunity to give locally and have a national impact.
