Students injured in Northern California elementary school shooting

Update 3:30 p.m.

Multiple news sources in Northern California are now reporting at least three children were shot in this morning's shooting. One of the wounded is said to be a six-year-old boy who suffered two gunshot wounds and was flown to a nearby hospital. Another child was shot in the leg.

There's no word on the condition of the young victims.

Witnesses are telling police the gunman was driving around the community, randomly shooting at people from inside a car.

The suspect was shot and killed by police who say they recovered a rifle and handguns from several of the shooting scenes.


Update 2:45 p.m. 

Authorities are now saying five people are dead in Northern California after a shooting rampage. Two children were shot and wounded inside their elementary school.

Authorities in Tehama County say the shooting started inside a residence and spread from there, including to Rancho Tehama Elementary School. The school has been cleared and uninjured students were moved to a safe location.

Right now, police say they have seven separate crime scenes to investigate and about 100 law enforcement officials are working to piece together the events.

The shooting happened around 8:00 a.m. pacific time at a school in Rancho Tehama—about 120 miles north of Sacramento. News outlets are reporting that children were shot and wounded but are not among the dead. Law enforcement officials confirmed a number of students were medically evacuated from the school. They were airlifted from the school.

Police confirmed at least two other people were shot and killed at multiple locations in rural Northern California.
