Accident Reported on Thomas Johnson Bridge

California, MD – On Nov. 10, troopers from the Leonardtown barrack responded to the area of Route 4, south of Patuxent Beach Road, California for a report of a serious motor vehicle crash with entrapment. 

On scene investigation revealed a gray 1992 Toyota Corolla bearing Virginia registration WYN7601, was traveling northbound on Route 4, south of Patuxent Beach Road when it traveled across the solid double yellow line into oncoming traffic. The gray Corolla collided with a silver 2010 Dodge Caravan bearing Maryland registration 5BC5614 operated by Robert Michael Johnson, 29. The Dodge Caravan was then struck in the rear by a blue 2008 Chevrolet Aveo operated by Allie Renne Nelson, 31. After the Corolla and Caravan collided, the Corolla rotated clockwise from the collision and came to a final rest on the right shoulder of the roadway on the southbound side of Route 4.
    
A passenger in the Toyota Corolla, identified as John Wayne Allen, 36, was flown to Prince George’s Shock Trauma by Maryland State Police Aviation Trooper 7. Mr. Wayne was in stable condition as of the last update. The driver of the Corolla, identified as Craig Edward Wareham, 46, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

California, MD – One motorist was killed Thursday, Nov. 10 in a three-vehicle crash on the St. Mary’s County side of the Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge, police reported. The rush hour crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. A Maryland State Police (MSP) Crash Reconstruction Team was sent to the scene to conduct an investigation. Information regarding the crash, including the identity of the person who was killed, has not been released.

 

A spokesman at the MSP Barrack in Leonardtown told TheBayNet.com that Tfc. Buckalew was handling the reconstruction report. The trooper was unavailable for comment.

The crash snarled traffic on both sides of the bridge and even impacted travel in Central Calvert County since many northbound motorists opted to take Route 231 via the Benedict Bridge in order to enter Calvert.


Update- 

Governor Thomas Johnson Memorial Bridge is now open however expect delays. Use caution and take your time.


Update – 4:48 p.m.-  It has been reported that the Fire Department has arrived on the scene. This is a three car accident with one transport by helicopter. It has been confirmed that there is a fatality at the accident scene.
