The St. Mary’s College men’s and women’s swimming teams lost both ends of a non-conference dual meet at Washington College on Saturday afternoon. The men (3-2) fell to the Shoremen, 140-64, while the women (3-3) lost to the Shorewomen by a 136-69 margin.
On the men’s side, freshman Joey Quase (Montgomery Village, MD/Good Counsel) won the 1000 freestyle (11:08.43) and finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:21.23). Freshman Jake Coolidge (Gilette, WY/Campbell County) also took a first and second for the Seahawks. Coolidge won the 100 backstroke (58.60) and finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:10.87).
On the women’s side, freshman Eleanor Koerner (North Potomac, MD/T.S. Wootton) finished first in the 50 freestyle (25.62) while senior Beth Dobson (Lexington Park, MD/Great Mills) won the 100 butterfly (1:02.13). Freshman Natalie Schaefer (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) also made a good showing for the Seahawks, finishing second in the 1000 freestyle (11:36.28) and third in the 500 freestyle (5:44.56).
The Seahawks will return to the pool on Saturday, November 19, when they host Catholic and York (Pa.) in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) double dual meet. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
