Fight for 7-0, Undefeated North Point and St. Charles Clash

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. - Week 7 of the 2018 football season pitted two undefeated, Charles County teams, against one another. North Point and St. Charles came into Friday’s contest 6-0, with St. Charles having already secured their first winning record in school history. The Spartans had never defeated the Eagles in their short time, the school opened in 2014, with their closest game being a 17-14 loss in the 2015 football season. Led by University of Maryland commit, quarterback, and linebacker Kameron Blount, The Spartans hoped this season to overcome the hurdle and beat North Point.

The game started close, with the first touchdown coming from a Malik Lawrence (Sr) pick-six, putting North Point up 8-0 after a successful two-point conversion, that was answered by a long pass for a touchdown from St. Charles. North Point scored twice more in the second quarter on two Asa Williams (Jr) rushing touchdowns, making the score 20-7 at the half. The Eagles would score one more time before the Spartans got on the board again, following a pass from Kameron to Konner Blount, cutting the score to 27-14. North Point scored twice more before the end of the third quarter, sealing the Eagles win 41-14.

The Eagles dominated on the ground, rushing for 329 yards, which opened up the air, passing for 101 yards. Corey Johnson (Jr) lead the team’s rushing game, with 236 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Asa Williams (Jr) also contributed 67 yards and three touchdowns rushing, in addition to completing 5 of 8 passes for 101 yards and an interception. North Point’s defense recorded five sacks from five different players, and for interceptions — three by Malik Lawrence (Sr).

St. Charles defense forced three turnovers, two fumbles and an interception by Klayton Batten (Jr). The Spartans have yet to post stats from Friday night’s contest.

St. Charles falls to 6-1 following the loss, and the Spartans travel to (1-6) Great Mills on Friday at 6 p.m. North Point improved to 7-0 and heads to (0-7) Leonardtown Friday with a 6 p.m. kickoff.
