PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – Huntingtown traveled 15 minutes down Route 4 for Week 3โ€™s Game of the Week against in-county rival Calvert. The Hurricanes dominated the Cavaliers with an impressive 15-0 win, furthering their defensive prowess for this season. Through three weeks Huntingtown has given up 7 points which came against Patuxent in week one. The shutout victory makes for the fifth straight shutout in the Huntingtown/Calvert rivalry. Huntingtown started this trend in 2014, followed by Calvert winning 3 years straight, and then the โ€˜Canes winning Thursday night. Until 2014 there had never been a shutout in the rivalry’s 13 years of existence.

Calvertโ€™s loss broke their three-year winning streak against Huntingtown, which had dominated the Cavaliers in years past. Calvert was unable to consistently move the ball on offense but their defense played strong. Huntingtown was only able to achieve one touchdown and one field goal against the Cavaliersโ€™ defense. The other touchdown came on an interception returned for a touchdown by the Hurricanes. Calvertโ€™s defense has only given up 22 points which is second in SMAC, right behind Huntingtown.

Calvert travels to Lackey Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the 2-1 Chargers. Lackey beat the Cavaliers last year 35-10. Calvert has beaten Lackey one time (17-14 in 2016) since 2004.

Huntingtown returns home this Friday at 7 p.m. to face winless Leonardtown. According to MaxPreps, a Hurricanes win will be the program’s 100th. Leonardtown has beaten the Hurricanes the past two years (21-13 in 2017 and 12-9 in 2016) but this yearโ€™s team is much improved.
