National Drive Electric Week

MD Volt Inc., a local non-profit promoting the benefits of electric vehicles, is partnering with MOM’s Organic Market in Waldorf to host a National Drive Electric Week (NDEW) event in Southern Maryland. Dozens of electric vehicle (EV) drivers and enthusiasts will gather to highlight the fun, clean-air benefits, and cost-savings of electric cars on Saturday, September 19th. The event will feature electric vehicles from several manufacturers, ride & drives of EVs, information gathering, presentations, giveaways, free electronics recycling, vendors demoing their products and music.

A record number of cities will take part. From Hawaii to Vermont, in Canada and Hong Kong, more than 170 events in 165 cities are planned where electric vehicle owners and their neighbors will hold electric car parades, “tailpipe-free” tailgate parties, recognition of leaders promoting EVs, launches of new public EV charging stations, and other public events.

National Drive Electric Week, celebrating its fifth anniversary this year, is based on the idea that nothing beats learning the ropes from existing owners and ride-and-drives in clean, quiet and powerful plug-in vehicles for converting gasoline-car drivers to EV owners.

Last year, MD Volt Inc. hosted a large NDEW event at the Maryland Science Center and two years ago, 4 events were hosted at MOM’s markets, including their Waldorf location. Most MOM’s Organic Markets have at least two electric vehicle charging stations in their parking lots, free for customer use.
