Charles County murder-suicide suspect identified

Detectives have identified the suspect in the attempted murder on Gallery Place as Kenneth Everette Barnes, 38, of Waldorf. 

On August 9 at 12:30 p.m., Barnes shot the mother of his child multiple times and fled the scene. The victim was flown to a hospital with serious injuries. Officers canvassed the apartment building where the shooting occurred and discovered Barnes in the stairwell; he was deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A gun was recovered beside him. The victim’s condition has improved and her injuries are not life threatening. Det. J. Elliott is investigating.

On August 9 at 12:30 p.m., officers responded to an apartment building in the 3000 block of Gallery Place in Waldorf for the report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a woman in her thirties with multiple gunshot wounds. She was flown to a hospital and is in serious condition. As officers canvassed the building, they discovered an adult male in the stairwell; he was deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A gun was recovered beside him. It is believed he is the man who shot the woman and that they were known to each other. Detectives are in the process of positively identifying the man. The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE 

Two people were shot resulting in the death of one man and the serious injury of a woman in St. Charles, Thursday afternoon, police say. Both victims are reported to be in their 30's. Police are working to identify the male victim. 


ST. CHARLES, Md. - On Aug. 9, around 12:30 p.m., one person was shot in Gallery Place, St. Charles, police say.

The victim, a female, and the suspect appear to have known each other, according to the Charles County Sheriff's Office. The victim is said to have been flown to a trauma center, her condition is unknown at this time. It has not been confirmed if a second victim was involved in the shooting. 

St. Charles Parkway is closed at St. Marks Drive. Traffic is being diverted through Wakefield Circle.
